James Cook

Director

My work background:
After graduating from University, I ventured into Civil Engineering for a short while before working for an Approved Inspector checking plans for compliance with the Building Regulations. During my career, I have worked for Local Authority Building Control and various Approved Inspectors on many large and complex projects throughout the UK and I have also worked for a Developer on one of the largest Housing projects in Europe. Matt Brown and I have known each other for several years and after working together for some time, we successfully applied for our own Approved Inspectors licence and launched Cook Brown Building Control. We have built a successful organisation and I am now proud to be part of the Hickton Group that offers a range of construction services and comprises similarly minded people who all work very hard and provide an excellent service to our clients.

About my role:
As an experienced Company Director, I am providing leadership throughout the Hickton Group and absorbing knowledge about how each part of the Group operates to develop long term strategies and plans for continuous improvement. Being technically minded, I offer support to technical teams as well as collaborating with the Group Board of Directors and their competent management teams to enhance the Group services and to place us as the market leaders in the services that we provide for UK clients.

About me:
Also known as Jim or Jimmy, I love all sports, but my favourites are rugby union and cycling. I am currently a Chairman of a local rugby club and have been playing for the same club since 1996. I am currently renovating a Listed Building which dates to the mid 1400’s although the priority for my two sons is to ensure that we have superfast broadband! I have promised my wife that the renovations will be completed within a couple of years, so I had better get on with it!

Random facts:
I like to set myself a physical challenge which usually involves training for either a running or cycling event. I have competed in the Milan-San Remo sportive on two occasions, cycling just over 300 kilometres within the 12-hour limit. I have also cycled from my home in Bristol to Paris, but the hardest day of sport was completing the Maratona Dles Dolomites, that was very hard, never again, or maybe…..!!
