Tony Mobbs

Chairman, BA (Hons) Dip Arch RIBA FFB

My work background:
I have been an architect in private practice all my career working mainly with Yorkshire practices as part of multidisciplinary businesses or bespoke architectural companies. I gained a lot of experience working with different teams on many exciting projects in education, leisure, commercial, residential and health. It’s always interesting to see how different disciplines view and respond to challenges.

About my role:

I am Chairman and shareholder of Hickton Group which owns Hickton Consultants Ltd, BRCS (Building Control) Ltd, Cook Brown Building Control and Cook Brown Energy. The companies were acquired so we could advise on Quality, Compliance and Energy in construction on projects and improve the quality of work through inspection. Whilst maintaining independence in carrying out their statutory duties, BRCS Surveyors can liaise with Clerk of Works to give a broader and more comprehensive service which I’m pleased to be able to offer to our clients. My role is to demonstrate the benefits of the unique service to the industry, act as an ambassador in selling the message and convince more clients that inspection improves standards and margins when details are built right first time.

About me:
I enjoy the challenge of creating positive work situations so people can develop and excel in their chosen careers with proactive support available when needed. I’ll encourage ‘can do’ attitudes where challenges are embraced with enthusiasm.

I am a brother, husband, dad and grandad as well as a keen solitary walker, usually in natural landscapes that include rivers lakes hills and the odd hostelry!  I enjoy photography so I can normally be seen with a lens in hand searching for the perfect nature-based shot or people inspired intrusions.

Random facts:

I held a world record for three months in 1971 for playing in the longest continuous game of badminton doubles (168 hours!) completed by 9 people in the school hall at Barrow Grammar School, now demolished! I helped set up the first joint venture between a UK architect practice and a Chengdu one in the Sichuan district of China. My two boys are much better rugby players than I ever was.
