Eighteen staff members took on a two-week challenge to virtually walk the distance between the Group’s eleven offices, which equates to 1,123 miles (2,371,987 steps).
The three teams of six members of staff – Spring Steppers, Walkaholics and Western Wonderers – started their virtual journey, adhering to lockdown rules, from our Portishead office, and in the first week managed to visit our Bristol, Cardiff, Tewskesbury, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Barnsley offices. The final, week saw the teams way ahead of schedule making an early visit to Chelmsford, London and Taunton, before traveling the final 43 miles back to Portishead
We are excited to announce that our teams racked up an impressive 2,847,102 steps (1,348 miles), taking us 225 miles over our anticipated target – we would like to count the extra miles for a few virtual diversions to our beautiful beaches.
The team with the most steps and bagging a £300 charity pot was the Western Wonderers with 1,036,169 steps. The runners up were the Walkaholics, closely followed by the Spring Steppers, both receiving a charity pot. The funds were kindly donated by Hickton Group and John and Chris Rudge.
Donations were made to six remarkable charities chosen by the teams, each of whom do an incredible job contributing to the lives of others; Brandon Trust, Louie’s Pace a Warriors Tale, Crisis, Shelter, CLIC Sargent and Young Minds.
Finally, it would be amiss not to acknowledge the personal best across our three teams… Congratulations to Chris Rudge who tracked 226,335 steps.
This step challenge forms part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which is formed based around four pillars: Community, Education, Sustainability and Employment, and includes lots of corporate events, charity donations, pro-bono projects and community work throughout the year.
